Arakatak

LiveRecords

In 1945, the first telegram was sent to establish an orchestra that would raise light music to a higher level, a mission that is still relevant today. To celebrate this milestone, we delved into our history and asked a group of befriended composers and artists to write new instrumental music. Morris Kliphuis, Tineke Postma, Shai Maestro, Louis Cole, Vince Mendoza, Miho Hazama, Mark Guiliana and Donny McCaslin, composed their ‘music of the future’ especially for Arakatak. The fantastic Miho Hazama conducts.

To celebrate the release of the Metropole Orkest’s first ‘solo’ album, we presented an exclusive in-the-round concert in Amsterdam. The limited number of people who managed to get a ticket were seated in the middle of the orchestra, wearing headsets, and experienced the album from the inside out. We couldn’t have imagined a better way to celebrate our 80th anniversary!

'The thread is the orchestra itself — that unmistakable groove, those horns and strings, soloists drawn from its own ranks.'
