The Metropole Orkest returns with a new family concert, this time featuring Dutch–Cape Verdean singer, rapper and producer Joël Domingos.
In a unique evening full of color, rhythm and innovation, two musical worlds merge: the rich repertoire the Metropole Orkest has built up over 80 years, and the distinctive, danceable sound with which Joël has rapidly made his mark on the Dutch music scene.
Joël Domingos (1995) grew up in a warm, multicultural family where Cape Verdean dance parties, African legends like Cesária Évora, and analyzing the lyrics of Billy Joel and Simon & Garfunkel were part of daily life. He now translates that mix into a style entirely his own: danceable Dutch pop meets alternative hip-hop, infused with soulful vocals, pop hooks, hip-hop flows, and authentic Cape Verdean rhythms.
With his debut album Dromers Slapen Niet (2024), Joël made his definitive breakthrough. Tracks like Beetje Vrijheid and Stick To Your Ways entered the Viral Top 50, his live shows sold out venues, and at festivals such as Zwarte Cross and the Nijmegen Summer Festivities he performed to packed tents. Both the press and established artists now see him as one of the most promising figures in Dutch pop music today.
For this special evening, several of Joël’s songs will be newly arranged for orchestra. In addition, the Metropole Orkest will delve into its own rich treasure trove full of colors, atmospheres, and surprises. Expect a night of experimentation, energy, and top-level musicality.
and contribute to educational projects and the preservation of Dutch heritage.
