Aretha Franklin: Queen of Soul
Conducted by Jules Buckley

Together with singer Sheléa, the Metropole Orkest brings classics such as Respect, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, and Think back to life in a sweeping orchestral performance, an impressive tribute to Aretha Franklin, the legendary Queen of Soul.

The audience experiences her iconic hits in a dynamic, renewed form, in which the full sound of the orchestra amplifies the power and emotion of Franklin’s music. From intimate, soulful passages to grand orchestral climaxes, every note breathes energy, passion, and timeless grandeur.

Aretha Franklin was one of the best-selling artists of all time, won eight Grammy Awards, and was the first female artist inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Her music became a voice for the Civil Rights Movement and inspired generations worldwide.

Sheléa, born and raised in Detroit as the daughter of a minister, grew up in the church just like Aretha and brought her music to life from an early age. Her deep, soulful voice and strong connection to Franklin’s repertoire make her the perfect interpreter of these iconic songs.

Sheléa
Sheléa is a singer-songwriter and performer, known for her deep, soulful voice and her interpretations of Aretha Franklin classics. She grew up in Detroit, sang in church from a young age, and was praised by artists such as Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones. With her expressive style and musicality, she brings Franklin’s repertoire vividly to life.

In Maastricht, the orchestra will be conducted by Jochen Neuffer.
