Aretha Franklin: Queen of Soul

In May 2026, Metropole Orkest, conducted by Jules Buckley, will tour the Netherlands and Germany with a powerful tribute to the legendary Queen of Soul: Aretha Franklin. Together with talented singer Sheléa, the orchestra will perform a captivating ode to her iconic repertoire, featuring classics like ‘Respect’, ‘You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman’, and ‘Think’.

Aretha Franklin was one of the best-selling artists of all time and a cultural icon whose influence extended far beyond music. She won eight Grammys and was the first female artist inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. With songs like ‘Respect’, she became a voice for the Civil Rights Movement and for women worldwide.

Singer/songwriter Sheléa, who has been praised by greats like Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones, will take the lead vocal role during the concerts. Like Aretha, she grew up in Detroit as a minister’s daughter and sang in church from a young age. Her deep connection to Aretha’s music makes her the perfect interpreter of this repertoire.

This tour offers a unique opportunity to experience the legacy of Aretha Franklin in a powerful, innovative orchestral form, presented by one of the world’s most versatile orchestras.
