Holland Festival – Arthur Verocai & Metropole Orkest

a unique concert at the Concertgebouw

Arthur Verocai, dirigent

At the age of 79, Brazilian music legend Arthur Verocai comes to the Netherlands for a unique performance at the Concertgebouw. The producer, arranger and guitarist will collaboratewith the Metropole Orkest and younger artists he has inspired.

According to many, his debut self-titled album that was released in 1972, is one of the best albums ever made. The 29-minute masterpiece perfectly brings together different musical influences to embody the sound of Brazil in the seventies, with strings, guitars, pianos, basslines, synthesizers, vocals, saxophone and percussion. Bossanova, samba, jazz, MPB, psychedelia and funk fit together effortlessly.

The album was recorded in Rio de Janeiro and produced, arranged and directed by Arthur Verocai himself. It transcends the genre of Brazilian music and has resonated with many other musicians. Verocai’s record was regularly sampled by artists from the hip-hop scene such as MF Doom, Ludacris & Common, Little Brother and Action Bronson, who thus contributed to its cult status.

Many music greats at the time contributed to the making of this album, from the great singers CĂ©lia, Carlos Dafe and Oberdan (Banda Black Rio) to percussionist Pedro Santos and Paulo Moura on saxophone. This time Verocai conducts the Metropole Orkest and is also accompanied by young(er) guest artists for whom he has been a role model. An evening not to be missed!
