In this special tribute to Aretha Franklin, the Metropole Orkest, led by chief conductor Jules Buckley, joins forces once again with internationally acclaimed vocalist Sheléa to bring the timeless repertoire of the legendary Queen of Soul back to life. Classics such as Respect, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman and Think are given powerful, contemporary orchestral arrangements.
Aretha Franklin is widely regarded as one of the most influential artists in music history. She won eight Grammy Awards, became the first female artist inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and, with songs such as Respect, emerged as a cultural icon and a powerful voice for both the Civil Rights Movement and women’s empowerment.
The vocal spotlight once again belongs to Sheléa, whose remarkable voice and musical versatility have earned praise from legends including Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones. Like Aretha Franklin, she was raised in Detroit as the daughter of a pastor and developed her singing talent from an early age in the church. This personal connection to Aretha’s musical legacy makes her an exceptional interpreter of this iconic repertoire.
Last May, the Metropole Orkest toured the Netherlands with Aretha Franklin: Queen of Soul, performing to sold-out audiences at venues including Het Concertgebouw, TivoliVredenburg and Amare. The tour’s tremendous success and the enduring appeal of the legendary Queen of Soul led to overwhelming demand for a return engagement, making this additional performance all but inevitable.
