As of July 1, 2025, Andreas Fleischmann has been appointed director of the Metropole Orkest. Since January, he had already been serving as interim director, succeeding Jan Geert Vierkant, who left the orchestra after eight years to join the Groninger Museum.
Laetitia Griffith, chair of the Supervisory Board, said: “The Supervisory Board sees Andreas Fleischmann as the right person to lead the Metropole Orkest in the coming years. Andreas is a passionate music lover and possesses strong, unifying leadership qualities along with a pleasant personality. He is an experienced, motivated, and highly driven director with an eye for the position and interests of the orchestra, its staff, and other stakeholders. With his extensive track record in areas such as cultural entrepreneurship, diversity, and commercial insight, we believe Andreas Fleischmann can further advance the Metropole Orkest, with a strong focus on the continued development of this unique ensemble. We are confident that the course he has set is the right one and are therefore pleased to continue this collaboration in the years ahead.”
Andreas Fleischmann said: “Over the past few months, I have found that the Metropole Orkest and I are a great match. I feel at home with the orchestra’s professionalism and the organizational culture that values our impressive history while always looking ahead to remain at the forefront. I can’t wait to continue building in the years to come and to bring even more people into contact with our music.”
