An evening full of groove and soul! Jong Metropole will share the stage with singer Jeangu Macrooy this fall, under the baton of the energetic conductor Simon Dobson. The orchestra is assembled each year from the top students of Dutch conservatories and offers a platform for young talent to develop within a professional-level orchestra. Together with Jeangu Macrooy, they will deliver a concert that swings and is full of soul, ranging from hits from Jeangu’s successful albums to virtuoso instrumental pieces from the beloved Metropole repertoire.
Jong Metropole
In this orkest, young talented musicians from the classical and jazz worlds come together. They gain experience in a musical world where boundaries between genres are blurring and musicians are expected to be increasingly flexible in their playing style. Since its founding in 2015, hundreds of conservatory students have participated in the projects and experienced the power of creating together and working with various (top) conductors, soloists, coaches, composers, and arrangers. The orchestra is an initiative of the National Youth Orchestras of the Netherlands and the Metropole Orkest and is made possible in part by the Cultuurfonds and the Keep an Eye Foundation.
Jeangu Macrooy
Jeangu Macrooy’s (Paramaribo, 1993) musical journey began when his parents gave him a guitar at age thirteen and he formed a musical duo with his twin brother. Jeangu’s musical ambitions, however, were grand, so in 2014 he left Suriname for the Netherlands, where he signed with Perquisite’s Unexpected Records. Since then, he has released an EP, three albums, competed in the Eurovision Song Contest, toured clubs, and made numerous television appearances. With his soulful songs, he captivates audiences with both danceable pop music and heartfelt ballads.
Simon Dobson
Simon Dobson is an award-winning composer, conductor, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Dobson is active as a conductor and arranger for, among others, the London-based Parallax Orchestra, the Southbank Sinfonia, and the Heritage Orchestra. In addition, Simon regularly writes for the Heritage Orchestra in London and the Metropole Orkest. Working with the Jong Metropole is a joy, according to Dobson: “They are all fantastic musicians, radiant bundles of energy—there is so much energy in that group.”
